I’m sure all of us have admired the impressive slide style of the biggest names in the history of slide guitar, taking inspiration from Robert Johnson and Son House, among others. But have you discovered the sounds of contemporary slide guitarists such as AJ Ghent (pictured) and Derek Trucks?
One of the things I love about slide guitar is its versatility and the way it can be interpreted so differently by individual guitarists. We are all following in the footsteps of the greats, but we bring our own voices to the genre and this creates a unique shape and tone that invites a new experience.
Listening to other slide players is inspiring, and watching them live is another level altogether. It’s an unforgettable experience to see a crowd of music lovers transported by a world class player who can command emotion and communicate directly through their instrument.
