If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you’ll know that I have plenty of guitars. If you’re new to guitar or don’t play yourself, you may even wonder if I have enough. I can reliably assure you that this is an impossibility. There is no such thing as having too many guitars.
As any keen guitar player will tell you, there are many different types of guitar and it is imperative to have plenty of options at your disposal at all times. For instance, if you use different tunings, it will save you valuable seconds if you have multiple guitars already prepared.
There’s no denying that guitars are beautiful objects, and the different styles and designs are works of art in my mind. They also hold their value pretty well, hence my argument that they are a great investment!
And that’s before we even get started on the different instrument variations. When I’m playing slide guitar, I love the different tones and sounds created with the lap steel, the dobro and the guitar, and it’s great to be able to experiment with the options. If you’re playing different styles of music, you might find yourself drawn to instruments that work well for this. For instance, the lap steel is well suited to country music so you might want one in your collection for this reason.
Browsing in a guitar shop is one of life’s greatest pleasures for me, and there are always so many tempting options. Recently, I’ve been exploring while on tour and have visited the amazing Mas Vintage Electronics, Bedford, and Rigby Music in Stockport. I highly recommend both for browsing and finding your new favourite guitar.
Of course, this post is tongue in cheek. I’m very lucky to have so many incredible instruments and just one guitar is probably enough for some people (madness!). I can’t take responsibility for any impulse purchases inspired by this post, although I’d love to see what you’re playing today!
