Are You Making Resolutions?

Do you make new year's resolutions?

Many people feel inspired to set goals at this time of the year and it can be motivating to start making changes along with millions of others - but there's a reason why most resolutions don't last beyond January. Generic goals like ‘start exercising’ and ‘have more fun’ can seem positive but they are overwhelming because they don't have any structure.

If you're setting goals or making resolutions this week, you can make the most of them by planning carefully and making sure that they are the right fit for your life. Resolutions that are the most likely to succeed are those that are measurable and can be broken down into small chunks, especially if you have good support with this.

Learning an instrument is a great choice and of course, my recommendation is to learn slide guitar!

You'll get there this year if you:

  1. Practice. Practice is the only way to improve at anything, and luckily when you're learning to play slide, practice is fun! If you have limited time, focus on regularity - just ten minutes a day can help you to make great progress.
  2. Listen to music. If you want to learn slide, I'm willing to bet you love listening to slide music. This is a good way to build up your experience and knowledge and find music that inspires you.
  3. Share with others. Finding other people with similar goals can help you to stay focused and motivated and you can find this when you join my Learn Slide Guitar Facebook Group. It's full of friendly, encouraging folks who also want to make progress with their instrument this year.
  4. Get some help. Resolutions that stick are those that are well supported, and I can help you to find your way with slide guitar. Whether you want to start from scratch or brush up your technique, I have a programme that can help.

Check out my courses here - and here's to a happy, healthy 2026 for all of us!
